My Story
Hi, I’m Rich Oliver, a science fiction and fantasy author, photographer, and creator of the Guardians of Reality series.
Writing has been a lifelong passion. Over the years, I have published novels, nonfiction books, short stories, poetry, and articles. For more than twenty-five years, I have also photographed the wildflowers, landscapes, and hidden beauty of Texas.
My stories blend science, faith, love, mystery, and the question of what makes us truly human. Although my fiction reaches across time, technology, and reality itself, its heart remains rooted in Texas and in the people, places, and experiences that shaped me.
Writing Approach
My dream to become a science fiction author began when I read my first comic book and science fiction novel. I competed in a creative writing competition in high school and was both a reporter and editor of the high school paper.
I have experience in the publishing industry and formal training as a technical writer. I have written several best-selling nonfiction books about my journeys hunting and photographing wildflowers.
Guardians of Reality is my science fiction fantasy series that follows JD and Kira as they fight the Fallen and the Orvyn Accord. The series is set in an alternate fictional future in the 2050s. My rule is to keep the stories "science fiction plausible and not outright refuted." The science and technology in the series is thoroughly researched and follows a series bible plus a philosophy and science ontology. The stories are character-driven with the science and technology as the background not the main focus. I invite you to join with me on this journey into what might be the near future.
